Miami County EMS staffs 3 Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances staffed with 1 Paramedic and 1 EMT. We also have a
Battalion Chief on duty 24 hours a day to respond to calls as needed to assist crews.
Our crews work 48 hour shifts then 96 hours (or 4 days) off. Our crews are on duty to serve the citizens and
visitors of Miami County 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
We respond out of 2 stations. Station 141 is located just south of Paola and houses 2 ambulances and the Battalion
Chief. Station 142 is located in the Louisburg Fire Department and houses 1 ambulance as well as a reserve ambulance.
We have First Responder assistance from the Louisburg Fire Department, Osawatomie/Fontana Fire Department, Paola Fire
Department, Drexel Fire Department, Wellsville Fire Department and in the North Central part of the County from Johnson
County Fire District 2 who can also respond with a BLS ambulance as needed when our own resources have been depleted.
All First Responder agencies can provide immediate BLS care until our crews arrive.
In 2010, Miami County EMS responded to 2,728 calls for emergency medical assistance, or about 7 calls a day. The
average response time was 8 minutes 14 seconds in a rural county of 590 square miles with a population of about 30,000.
